IFATCA 2014 - Day 1

The first day of the 53rd Annual Conference of IFATCA has come to a close - after the Opening Plenary early this morning, there was a formal opening of the Conference by a number of dignitaries and politicians. In their speeches, they stressed the importance of aviation to the Canary Islands and how air traffic control is an essential link in this.

With the fomalities over, and following a quick lunch, the different Committees assembled and got to work. These discuss administrative, technical and professional/legal matters that affect the Federation and controllers around the world.

Delegates to the conference can look forward to a packed day tomorrow, starting at 08.30h for the first full day of discussions. Having said that, most of them will not wait for that to discuss matters that affect their country, members or air traffic controllers around the world.

The Controller - now on Android

For those on tablets/smartphones using the Android operating system, we're exciting to announce the availability of The Controller app for Android. Last month, we introduced the same for iPad/iPhones. Both apps offer the same possibility: you get one issue for $0.99 or you can subscribe and access the whole archive during one year for $9.99. We're adding older issues of The Controller as we find them and hope we'll eventually have the full collection available. If you have old issues (pre 2005) and want to help out (by either scanning them or lending them for scanning), please contact the editor[at]the-controller[dot]net

The Android app can be found the Google Play store (search for 'IFATCA') or via this link.

The iOS version can be found in the iTunes App store (also search for 'IFATCA') or via this link.

International Day of The Controller

cover_3_2013_app.jpgOctober 20th marks the birth of IFATCA. Our Federation was established at a meeting in Amsterdam on October 20th 1961. Since then, Air Traffic Controllers around the world celebrate the day as the International Day of The Controller. Many Member Associations host special events to draw the attention of the general public to what is still a relatively unknown profession.

Coinciding, IFATCA and the editorial team of The Controller, our Federation's magazine, is proud to launch The Controller app. Currently available for Apple's iPad and iPhone devices, the app can be downloaded for free in the iTunes App store. After downloading it, it will be available in the Newsstand folder.

Single issues cost $0.99 / €0.89, but a subscription is also availalbe: this gives you access to all previous issues as well for one year. Currently, all issues since the end of 2006 are available, with more to come soon.

An Android version will also be available before the end of the year.
